A Trusted Community Leader
No stranger to community service, Marty has remained actively involved in a variety of community- and school-related organizations throughout his life.
He is a longtime member and former president of the Hixson Kiwanis Club and the Hamilton County Pachyderm Club, and he currently serves on the board for the Hixson Kiwanis, Friends of Hixson and the North River Civic Center. He also chaired the Centennial Celebration for Hixson High School and served as a board member of Hixson Youth Athletic Association for many years. In addition, Marty was appointed to the Hamilton County School’s Discipline Committee.
Due to these and other volunteer activities, Marty was inducted into the Hixson High Hall of Fame in 2008 for his efforts to make the Hixson community a better place for all.
An Effective Conservative
Turning his energy and efforts to elected office, Marty has served as the Hamilton County Assessor of Property since August 2016. Since taking over the Assessor’s Office, Marty has implement numerous reforms and improvements to modernize the Assessor of Property Office in an effort to make its services customer-focused, technology driven and more responsive to the needs of all property owners across Hamilton County.
Prior to being elected as the Assessor of Property, Marty served on the Hamilton County Commission after winning a special election in August 2012 to fill the District 3 seat, which represents the Hixson community both within the City of Chattanooga and the unincorporated rural area, including Middle Valley, Dallas Bay and Town of Lakesite.
Throughout his years of pubic service, Marty has lead efforts to bring accountability, transparency and efficiency to county government. Due to these efforts and Marty’s ongoing commitment to provide responsive representation to community priorities and make decisions that reflect the conservative principles of Hamilton County, Marty has earned the respect, trust and broad support of the voters.
A Successful Businessman
After being elected as Hamilton County Assessor of Property in 2016, Marty Haynes retired as a technical sales agent at Porter Warner Industries, the largest foundry supply house in North America. During his time with Porter Warner Industries, Marty managed a business budget of more than $4 million and worked with more than 500 clients throughout the region to meet their manufacturing equipment needs. In addition, Marty worked as a licensed real estate agent at the Huddleston Group, a Chattanooga real estate company that serves both residential and corporate customers.
A Committed Dad and Neighbor
Marty is the son of Norma and the late Dub Haynes and has two sons, Miller and David Haynes, who is married to Nicki and has three children – Marjorie, Mallory and Manning. He is an active member of Stuart Heights Baptist where he serves as the campus director for the church's Chattanooga Campus located in the Rivermont community.
Marty Haynes is a lifelong Hixson resident and part of a family that includes five generations of Hixson residents and counting. After graduating from Hixson High School in 1977, Marty would go on to attend the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he studied business administration and management.
